FERN plots were developed by forestry professionals, University of Maine professors, and high school science teachers as a means to expose students to the work of foresters and other natural resource professionals and engage them in the year on year collection of ecological data related to the growth and health of forests. These data sets are utilized by teachers in a variety of ways to further understanding of and inspire interest in science and math. Participants will visit THE FERN plots established in MOFGA woodlands and use forestry tools to collect the same data collected by FERN students. |
