Presenter: Living Soil Network
Talk Description: FREE BIOLOGICAL SOIL TESTS: IS YOUR SOIL HEALTHY? FIND OUT WHAT MICROBES, IF ANY, ARE ALIVE IN YOUR SOIL! Ideally, collect samples no more than two days prior to testing. Use a plastic bag, not paper. Seal it 2/3 full of air. Take samples from three different locations, put all three samples into one bag, but do not purposefully mix the soils together. Use an apple corer or a large metal spoon. Scrape away the top layer of organic matter, go down three inches and take the sample from there. One apple core’s worth or one dinner spoon’s worth is enough. After you choose your three locations, find a plant in each location and collect your sample from half way between that plant’s stalk and the drip line end of its leaves. Be careful to not damage the plant’s roots but it’s important to take the sample close to them. If your soil is bare, then take samples from anywhere.
