Talk Description: As rural hospitals eliminate maternity services, Maine women are at higher risk of poor outcomes. When seeking maternity care, travel, traffic, weather, and lack of providers are all impediments to access care and many women must travel miles from home. When in a vulnerable condition, this can be life threatening. This talk will outline the crisis of disappearing maternity services in rural Maine, how women and communities can advocate for these services, and strategies for women to find the respectful care they need.
